If you look at the number’s of coal fired power stations coming online around the world over the next decade you should be able to see that coal prices should stay very buoyant for many decade’s to come.
Even if you just look at China’s plans for new ones it should become apparent that the need for coal is not going to diminish.
Of course we could stop exporting our high grade product but will that make a positive difference?
It certainly will hurt our financial position and reduce our abilities to subsidise our push for renewables, though.
It will be very interesting to see how big a stuff up the Greens/Labor can make over the next 3 years, chasing the dream of “low cost” energy.
