Re; "..I am overly cynical and there are some in the commercial world who are worth listening to..."

IMO you're being a bit harsh on yourself! I too readily acknowledge that some have submitted thoughtful & well-supported assessments which IMO are worth taking into account. Indeed, many media reports are well-researched & very informative.

However IMO since the end of the 2003-2007 bull run relatively few brokers & analysts can hold their heads up & many of them have been exposed as emperors without clothes. Even worse perhaps are media reports that some brokers have placed buy recommendations on companies like OZL while actively shorting it themselves - wolves seeking Little Red Riding Hood no less!

IMO though you can rely on Greenspan - whenever things start to look up he utters doom & gloom prognostications that are followed by impressive market downturns. He is well-supported in this by GS, MS, UBS & a few others!

Sadly many people & businesses have been subjected to a lot of pain that even our misguided & myopic RBA has finally acknowledged in noting that we may experience a 'hard landing' with 100,000 more unemployed.

So IMO you were not cynical, just brutally realistic in assessing actual performance.
