    I am not sure what the fuss is all about.

    I have seen people in order to identify themselves being required:

    1 - to act in the presence of witnesses.
    2.- to take an id card or a substitute document/s with them, or
    3 - to have their signatures certified by a public notary, solicitor or lawyer.

    So, what will be the problem if it becomes common practice to do it online with the help of an electronic id based upon details stored at a central location?
