sorry perhaps I wasn't as clear as I should have been: when I said "So its not at all comparable to a new build/plant IMO.", what I meant was the situation Eskom find themselves in regarding their application of UCG is totally different from that of CXY which aims to build a new plant based on UCG. Hence the commercial situation is very different.
On the technical aspects of the UCG based power plant I agree with your comments, with the proviso that the underground gasification works as assumed in your models.
But as I said before, I would prefer to see a staged investment/scale-up because this is not a process which is without technical risk - in terms of the subsurface performance of the gasifier. Hopefully, it does perform as expected at large scale, but that's still to be demonstrated and so I would like to see a staged scale-up of maybe a trial burn, then 40-100MW then 200-400MW or something like this.
