Les left his day job to start up SLR. Definitely no silver (or gold) spoon. He and the other co-founders thought that gold was a good business to be in, and it proved to be so. He is a shrewd operator, he/they will batten down the hatches, control costs, invest in diversification (copper exploration etc), and I am pretty sure SLR will come out strong in the next cycle change. If not, Les has more than enough 'skin in the game' and personal pride to make good deals for his shareholders.
Unless you want to sit on your bonds or term deposits trading in any share or commodity has risk - ask the deposit holders of Cyprus about risk..
