I recently took up a significant position in a penny dreadful stock and had done what I thought to be enough research into the direction it was taking to continue buying. Then with the colapse of yet another margin lending firm, Chimera, there were a few casulaties on the bourse.

This in itself is an area which needs to be regulated and watched, however, what has really concerned me was the lack of information regarding company directors and their positions with these types of groups who lodge their stock with a lender, borrow cash or use the stock to buy further shares and not advise the market of :

a) Change of ownership of shares
b) Amount of gearing on the stock from the company
c) Loan funds used to purchase stock as a director

I recon the opes prime debarcle would have been significantly different if measures were put in from the begining to show this.
