I think XR250 would be nearly perfect for what you want.Air cooled 4 stroke,simple design,reliable,quite and easy to maintain. Honda sold heaps of them so there are plenty around,buy one that hasn't been flogged from a older guy. I would stay a way from a Husky or a KTM,these are great bikes but designed for competition,you need to ride them hard otherwise they feel like a pig,stiff suspension and the power comes on quick. The noise you spoke is pretty normal for these 2 stroke engines,they tend to rattle and bang at idle, but sound better under load. Have fun
