I can't really see anyone concerned about the environment, (aren't we all in someway ?) being so fooled as to think a carbon tax, or much portion of it, will actually go to reducing the so called greenhouse emissions.

The Gillard Govt. has already stated that it will be returned to the population and small business - as so many posters here have already pointed out, with the apt description of "wealth distribution".

""There is a related issue, which nobody seems to be talking about, and that's whether you really want to be compensating anybody for any of this in the first place. Isn't the idea of a carbon tax to make burning fossil fuels so unattractive that we do a lot less of it?

If you examine the government's rhetoric and compare it with the Greens' you'll see there is one clear point of difference over the past couple of days. The ALP is still talking about compensation for polluters.""
