Really puts these comments by Greenies in true perspective... From memory of the resolution of this issue at DZP, the Uranium within the tailings will be at a LOWER concentration than what was initially mined. So storing it at the same location (10-20m above ground rather than 50m below...) makes what difference, when the background radiation from random decay travels more or less the same random path...
Any mining of any ore will involve the extraction of SOME Uranium, just what the concentration is. By this logic no mining can ever occur.
Oh wait, that seems to be the Greens policy... no materials for solar cells, wind turbines, electric cars. Bugger me if I can see logic here....
NB The only way to make NSW Uranium Free is to dig it all up, concentrate it and export it.
