Why do I mention Feb 11 as a possible higher low?
Apart from Armstrong's 8.6 year cycle, I believe that the US 4 yr presidential cycle and the 10 year or decennial cycles are the almost all you need to figure out long term trends.
How often does a 4 year and 10 year cycle rearrange to an exact matching repeat? If you remember your common denominators etc, then it is obviously every 20 years.
So the last time 4 and 10 year cycles were the same as this was Feb 1988.
Below is a SPI chart of late 1987 and early 1998. On the basis of just those two cycles then the market action should be similar approx. to late 2007 and early 2008.
A you can see, the SPI topped on Oct 6 1987 and this time the Dow topped on Oct 11 2007.
The SPI finished its bottomming action with a final higher low on Feb 10 1988 and we have made a higher low on Feb 11 2008.
So we could have made a higher low and just continue upward but you need to combine Armstrong and that was no match with 1998.
