Well that concerns me a great deal.
If I see Afterpay shift jobs to overseas locations solely because they are cheaper, then I'm dumping all my Afterpay shares.
I've watched companies move their IT offshore from Australia for the last 27 years as a professional in the IT industry and I can tell you it never ends well. If you want mediocrity, offshore it - because that is the best you are going to get by putting your IT at arms length, and doubly so when there are language, timezone and cultural barriers between management and the boots on the ground doing the work.
I'll watch out for any more details about the nature of their Shanghai operations - but if it continues to smell like an effort to cut costs by offshoring IT then I'm selling and not looking back.
