100% agree.
The Chinese have significantly more naval assets, although inferior in quality - continuing DBs analogy, they have soccer whereas we have AFL.
The US is worried about supply lines, and the ability to move large numbers of troops. In the ME AO they were able to safely stage large numbers in multiple locations, and then airlift as required. This task is considerably more difficult in a shooting war in SE Asia, given the missile reach from mainland China (we cannot lodge 250,000 troops in Japan). Hence the need for steel ships with survivability, speed and capacity to carry whats needed, to where we need it.
