You will likely find one ASX broker is allocated as a market maker for a specific company.
that means they have to ensure market liquidity.
As I understand it that means there must be both buy and sell bids on each.
I stand open to being corrected by someone who knows better.
As to single share trades my broker will allow purchase as low as one share on the likes of MLX or even part shares.
