Good evening to all,
Had a chat with Luke Aitkins from BAU today. Apparently news letter will be released on BAU website informing of China trip. Asked if any news would be forthcoming to the market regarding trip however he remaind tight lipped. Regarding further tenement applications stated still going through approval process and could take up to 12months from time of application.
Regarding BAU's Bauxite - relatively low grade bauxite 30 -40% compared to others say around 50%+
- however BAU's bauxite and darling ranges bauxite has a very low silica level of 1-3 % compared to others who may have 10 - 13%. This is fundamental at the operational level of refining process. High levels of silica content require bauxite to be benificated ,seperating the silica from the bauxite ,adding significantly to the operational cost of refiners .Secondly silica poses increased wear and tear on machinery again increasing costs associated with ongoing maintenance of plants. So even though bauxite deposit may be of a higher grade than others it is the silica level that plays an important factor in determining customers choice. Even though darling ranges bauxite are of a lower concentration ,sometimes by 20 - 30% ,at the operational level once the refining process kicks in it only leeds to a 1-2% recoverable difference making BAU's darling ranges bauxite extremely sought after for its cost effectiveness , the difference at the recoverable level is negligent and the impact of low silica content on machinery is extremely beneficial.
BAU will also be embarking on a roadshow in June,with a few other companies , whereby a presentation will be conducted accompanied with dinner , open discussions and drinks. BAU will email me the details which I will post once received.
