here its about seats, a similar count of states and seats in the US but all is first passed the post. our being preferential means that people vote in a very different manner.
but this is not about Aus election. you made the claim of Trump winning popular support to claim a mandate. the quote I posted doesn't take into account all those eligible to vote but didn't bother. this reduces the %age of Trump's win.
