This company is one of the biggest under performers with a grotesquely overpaid CEO. Why do I say this? Well, for one thing, Troy is on approx $1M annual salary. Really?? for a company this size?? Rumours are the his contract is going to be renewed - time will tell. Suspect directors don't want to have the difficult discussions and will just continue existing contract (nobody likes confrontation and, after all, its not coming out of their pockets). Troy (and his senior management team) should be on good option packages with a much more market conform base salary (less than half of what they are on now I suggest - which would still be a very, very handsome package). That way management and shareholders are actually alligned. This ties in directly with the way shareholders are being treated. No substantive info is being shared (and I am not talking about confidential info here). When we farm out we just get told that we have done so but nothing is said about how much is farmed out or what the consideration has been. We are just treated like mushrooms! What is the communications manager doing all day?? You have to stop treating shareholders with disprespect (that holds for the Board too because they need to rectify this if Troy doesn't himself). So far, the company is trading for less than its cash value and NPV of current projects. No upside whatsoever. Why? Because brokers and shareholders are being ignored, no substantive announcements are being made and there is no incentive for management to change this. If this is not fixed, TAP will remain the perennial under performer (and, please, if you think Troy will voluntarily go elsewhere you are dreaming...with a package like that, ... he's just laying low and cashing in on $1M per year...while the shareholders get zippo!). IMO Board needs to, at the very least:
1) Ensure CEO salary is incentive based on performance (at least half of current salary); and
2) Communicate properly with brokers and shareholders.
That would be a good start...but I am not holding my breath!
