Congratulations on your first post on this thread, IMO a courageous, heartfelt expression of concern.

IMO many other Australians will be deeply disturbed by the images to appear from that rally. IMO it had the appearance of an old western movie's lynch mob, fired up by what sounded like hateful rhetoric. IMO it was almost reminiscent of recent scenes from Iraq, Greece, Egypt, Bahrain & Yemen - scary stuff for many people!

Those responsible might do well to remember that although Australia has been fortunate enough to have made the big changes at the ballot box democratic institutions are easily damaged & do require mass support from all sides of the political spectrum. Peaceful demonstrations have been a feature of Australian political life but in my 60+ years I cannot recall one descending this far into the gutter.
