I guess one important fact in this is that the new head of the CDC was instrumental in changing the testing practice in the New York Dept of Health from TST to all QFT. The skin test is no longer in use there.

This gentleman has the reputation of being a forward thinker and very much a can-do person, he has intimated that he wished to modernise practices within the CDC and has very often stated his belief that QFT is far superior to the skin test Plus of course it has proved to be the more economical option.
