Tony, The announcement from 26 April 2012 on 'Synthetic Phylomer Libraries' and the foreshadowing of "new applications of the platform, such as the identification of disease biomarkers for the development of novel diagnostic products," does provide an excellent framework.
It would appear that Phylogica and the IMB have been independently working towards similar goals i.e. the development of peptide based biosensors. Now that they are working together, the synergistic technologies of the two groups does appear to be very exciting.
Since it hasn't been done, the development of a universal specificity chip would indeed be a disruptive technology.
