"it does high-lite the problem of candidates with there own priority's/axes to grind. One has to wonder why they bother joining a party."

I think that is a valid point, for many it is just an avenue to get into parliament.

But it is just as valid to ask, "Why is one nation putting up candidates like this?"

Is their only choice candidates pushing their own barrows rather than one nations?

Seems strange to me.
