I went to my local ANZ branch at which I maintain my savings account and presented a Bearer cheque payable to "Cash" and asked the teller to watch me sign it and then she asked me for identification.
I pointed out to her that the cheque was drawn to bearer on an account at HER branch, just go to the signature card box and verify my signature blah blah blah.
No good, she insisted on identification and so I presented my Dan Murphy's card. (That got a smile for the (other) old bloke waiting behind me.)
"Not good enough", she said and I asked "why not, it has my name upon it" and so we had a polite argy-bargy about it.
Eventually I walked out with my $1000 in cash.

A bearer cheque and the bank tried to not honour it.
