Regis has highlighted its dividend as a way of differentiation from other gold miners. I suspect this means that there are a considerable number of shareholders who have selected Regis as their gold option specifically because of the dividend. In an ideal world it doesn't make much sense to raise a big chunk of capital (at considerable cost in fees) and then pay a portion back to shareholders as a dividend. However the alternative probably wouldn't receive a favourable response either. I've read a few predictions for the final dividend, here is an illustration of past declared dividends and the total cost to the company under various predictions for the upcoming final dividend.
