"FIFO largely exists because people don't want to live in whoop whoop"

You obviously don't know the history of FIFO and you wouldn't know the history of mining towns from the 60's onwards.  People used to live in towns at Goldsworthy, Koolyanobbing, Pannawonica, Karratha, Dampier  and in company towns in the Eastern States (e.g. Mt Isa).  The towns had all the modern amenities -  TV, schools,  swimming pool,  hospital, airport, sporting amenities, modern shopping centre(s) and people were thrilled to get a company house at a nominal rental in those places.  I know this as I spent years in two North West company towns.

Why would have FIFO been impractical!  The Hawke/Keating Government forced companies into FIFO when they introduced the Fringe Benefits Tax as companies were taxed on the cheap  housing they provided to their employees.

Daytr, I enjoy reading your posts but please restrict them to subjects you know something about!
