The shale oil/gas basins are well known and delineated so it is a matter of getting some acreage and putting a well down. (There are no "dusters" in the shale game)

The infrastructure in the US is extensive so it is just a matter of pumping the gas/oil a couple of kilometers to link up with the grid.
