Sounds like you have got things under control. It is a good idea not to instigate legal proceedings unless you absolutely have to imo.
I hope it does not go to the legal proceedings as your life, your sons life and your wifes life will be better off if it stays out of the hands of the lawyers.
Still and all its good that you are prepared and also prepared to let things happen without lawyers.
My only other advice is be careful what you say to your wife from here on and do not get drawn into nasty arguments with her, her friends or anyone that happens to ask about what is happening. These things will find their way into the court, believe me they will.
If you want your relationship good with your son then never denigrate his mother to him or around him. Ive seen people do this and it destroys the relationship. The relationship between mother and sons is very strong this is my experience.
