zeta, having needs met often relates to power/sex/money, but not always. I wouldn't view that particular circumstance as an exception. This is why:
Your short fat ugly friend will be fulfilling some need in him. Maybe she's a great cook and that's what he needs to feel good, or maybe she has a lovely smile or is a great masseur....whatever, you know what I'm saying.
One day she develops a degenerative neurological disease in her early 50's and can't cook, smile or massage. Suddenly, strangely, the "love" is gone. He goes looking for another cook with a great smile.
