pardon my ignorance....but how does a drop in DOW futures of...

    pardon my ignorance....but how does a drop in DOW futures of nearly 400 (at present) relate to a drop of only about 100 on the DOW (at present)? I had thought they should be approximately the same at opening......clearly I am mistaken.
