Yeah one cant help but feel that is what is happening.
The short squeeze is possible if the results are not bad or even "good". But if the shorts are not greedy then they can simply buy into a selloff and avoid a squeeze. You can even get a short rotation where a new set of shorts sells into the old set who are closing their short position.
Either way, basing a long position solely on a potential short squeeze seems very risky.
