@Hoden, you are no doubt a wiser person than me – certainly more risk averse – and I have a few regrets! But I invested today.
I was staggered at what a poor public speaker Moriarty is – I agree, on the surface, he doesn't sell the company effectively. I kept waiting for his introduction to finish, to be followed with detail by a polished technical speaker - didn't happen. Yes, a non-salesman at the helm who's seemingly not capable of selling the dream – to the lay public and possibly to brokers with little technical imagination in the absence of $s etc – but will the lay public be crucial to float success? Or will savvy corporates be the key?
My view is that the compelling nature of the technology, with clear competitive advantages, and clear potential global demand, will mean there is sufficient pull to counteract Moriarty's public speaking. And given Moriarty's corporate history, he may well be smart enough to understand his public speaking shortcomings and know the ways around them (I hope so).
All documents that I have read via the website are very articulate, and I believe that innovative technology like 1414's will already be well known via professional publications “Journal of Engineering” and “Sustainable Energy of the Future Association” (fictional names) type publications – it's a hot topic technology arena, and 1414 has clear competitive advantages in many applications.
I am very confident that the technology will be proven to be commercially viable - I'm an applied (food) scientist, not an engineer – but from my manufacturing experience, it's hard to envisage technical barriers that can't be overcome - because inherently, the technology is simple.
I too felt initially disappointed that Moriarty hasn't spelled out a clear and logical path to profitability. But I understand the nature of “pilot plant” trials (I have much experience of pilot plant trials) – and we know that regardless of company confidence in the future, there is no way that comments can be made on commercial viability until pilot/small scale operations are proven, with hard engineering data available from them – that is the nature of technology.
So, it's a matter of faith, and if's and buts. Not necessarily a great way to invest – but I'm in! GLTAHs.
