I think that is why the focus is on gold; which would need to be processed a site but then the transportation costs of the product is minimal. As you say processing on site would be necessary due to ore transportation costs. Tailing dam are also an issue but this is present on most tropical environments, but Brazil has a "mining friendly" regulator but an operator still needs to be "responsible"
