this was a case and it only changed AFTER there was an outcry.

you have surely read about the trans women and sports issues

so let’s extend your comment about living life according to individual choices. In my view that mindset is a recipe for social disaster. We do not have free choice over every part of our life and nor should we - even when we think the consequences are that we don’t matter or we aren’t being respected.

there is a balance between communal good and individual interests. It’s not always easy to strike that balance and often we get it wrong. What is wrong for some is not wrong for others.

Let’s take child pornography and pedophilia. Most people think it’s wrong and it appears to be incurable - managed only by an individual taking personal responsibility to exercise restraint and understand that in today’s society it is regarded as morally wrong. In some countries however the age at which girls can be married off is very young and in our own society not so long ago childhood ceased much earlier than it does now

In these cases I think it’s not so hard to see that the rights of the individual to do what they want impinge on the rights of the other. I believe it is much harder to see that in the case of trans - but only if you can see exactly what is wanted by some -and certainly not all.

the problem many of us see is that in this case there are implications for women - in an attempt to accommodate the trans women (and it is mostly they making the fuss) there is a demand to change language - away from words previously associated with women. And other rights - sports where male musculature gives a distinct advantage and we can see examples of where athletes who have barely been noticeable before transition are able to compete with women who have previously been top of the game. That creates an unfair situation whether you like it or not. I’ve provided other examples. And could provide more

further they ask to be redefined as a sex they are not - just because they feel they are that sex. To be honest I don’t know how a man - hormones up or not could possibly know what it feels like to be a woman btw. they do know they don’t feel like their birth sex. But we don’t even really know what that means

while for some gender reassignment allows them to feel settled research shows that others continue to experience psychological problems - because sex or gender attachment or identity was not actually the issue.

Personally I think it would have been far easier if our society weren’t so inclined to a binary view and had been able to recognise these people as a third sex. Maybe then this issue might not have arisen
