Interesting discussion NB and Mak.
Agree with most - although perhaps not your comment NB about the world does not want self treating patients and internet doctors.
This is exactly what the world wants. Better self management of chronic disease is a top priority for all western health care - as needs shift (with ageing) from acute to chronic. And if you look at dream for the NBN in Australia - health is right up there particularly in country areas.
As you say though it will come down to price and accuracy of the algo. Plus how the device interacts with the cloud. Anything that requires more than 2 clicks on your computer and a health professional wont bother with it. Other issue is to show better outcomes (effectivness) - and reduced cost (less GP / hospital visits) in the real world - this is what gets managed care - insurers - to foot the bill in the US - and policy makers in Aus.
In 18 months - two years I suppose the only thing we can be certain of is that the world wont have stood still - which is your point Mak - Isn had better get their skates on.
