Hi GU, excellent post (posts actually) and you have stimulated a very good discussion. I think at the end of the day its not bot trading that we need to be concerned about its that one category of traders in the market have access to tools or rules that others dont. On that I can see no positive (for those of us that dont have such access) and so regulators should do their job and make sure that doesnt happen.
Therein lies the argument for competition to the ASX, but unfortunately I doubt competition alone will fix this problem - if you look at US markets where there is competition I believe the problem exists there too, despite the existence of competition.
So the problem is that bourses are effectively allowed to self-regulate and government regulators do nothing to address the situation. There is no clear answer to this unfortunately, so in the meantime I continue to believe its best to understand how these guys operate and trade accordingly.
