The appointment caps a five-month search for a new director, and Mogul managing director Gernot Abl told The Australian his company was keen to hire someone with experience scaling a fast-growing tech company.
Canva, which Mr Adams started with Melanie Perkins and Cliff Obrecht, was started in a bedroom but now has more than 20 million users and was last valued at $US3.5bn ($5.1bn).

“Cameron’s experience in building Canva’s product offering to now have a multi-billion dollar valuation, his deep understanding of digital platform offerings, and the broader tech sector is something that we see as a massive benefit for Esports Mogul.”
“Getting Cameron on board was a months’ long process with him wanting to get to know the company, the team, the platform and the consumer product offering really well. As a result, with Cameron now appointed, he’s going to be hitting the road running with us as we look to continue our strong positive momentum in the past few months.”
Esports Mogul offers a subscription-based platform for professional gamers to play games, chat and stream to their thousands of fans.
“I’m delighted to take up this appointment with Mogul,” Mr Adams said in a statement.
“Their product is unparalleled within the esports market, and I look forward to helping the team continue to improve it and grow the new monetisation opportunities that have arisen from the launch of Mogul’s Branded Hubs earlier this year.”
Mr Abl said he’s positioning Mogul as a value-creating tech hub within a multi-billion dollar esports ecosystem and the $US152bn video games category.
“There is massive potential to attract mainstream gamers and esports fans to the platform, in addition to the semi-pro and pro-gamers using the platform for its tournament offering. We see the sector as definitely ‘hot’ at the moment,” he said.
“Our goal is for Mogul to be the premier destination for video gamers, esports enthusiasts and fans, influencers, teams, organisers, and game publishers - delivering a strong value-add fan engagement and marketing offering on top of a world-class tournament and competition platform.”
