I know I do. Living close to the national park or series of parks that extend from NSW Southern Highlands to the BlueMountains and beyond, I am aware of the depletion of wildlife that has occurred due to the unprecedented bush fires in the summer. The bird life has diminished to virtually nil. I heard some guru put the loss at some figure in the billions. Some species are particular to small areas. If they are burnt out it's likely the species are gone for good.
One guide to the scale of the loss is the reappearance of foxes. They would have been able to escape the fires, those who survived the NPWS poisoning program, but the fact that they are reappearing from the bush tells us they can't find food there.
Mind your pets.
