It’s best that Santos puts Narrabri out of its future plans. The only way it will truly work is if it is really - desperately needed and wanted by both the community (locally and the whole state) and the State Govt and right now it is supported by neither of those. In fact it is a despised project in NSW.
The sheer cost involved with a project that size would mean that an extraordinary amount of support is crucial. If it isn’t underpinned by this the damage in going ahead for Santos could be considerable.
The argument of gas shortages and rising prices doesn’t even come into it - this is about emotions and politics- not logic - and that makes it a risky venture.
I’m a Santos investor but a business realist and some of the best projects a company does are the ones they walk away from.
