Doctors use Clint for Lorenzo training
CSC has implemented iSoft's software for a fictional trust, allowing healthcare professionals to 'play' with the system

The firm provides the Clinicians NHS Trust (Clint) with up to 60 licences of the latest deployed version of Lorenzo, and will move to version 1.9 the edition to be used by Morecambe Bay, the first trust-wide installation of the software in "a few weeks," according to Dr Tony Penney, clinical director of strategic IM&T for NHS East Midlands.
Penney said the Clint system helps clinicians have some confidence in Lorenzo, the implementation of which as part of the National Programme for IT has been heavily delayed. "A year ago, there was a lot of scepticism about Lorenzo as a product," he told HC2010 on 28 April 2010. "People asked, does it actually exist? We could say, here it is."
The Clint system allows early adopting clinicians to try Lorenzo and see how it works in an unstructured fashion. "Have a play for five minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes," Penney said.
Users are given a dedicated laptop, along with smartcard and virtual private network token, which they can use through the NHS N3 network, although it will also work through wireless and 3G connections.
They can set up patient records and add to them over months, to see how such records can be built within the system, and can swap experience through a Sharepoint system. The system is limited to a few specific scenarios, including diabetes and mental health.
Penney said Clint users are involved in the Principal Lorenzo User Group, which was founded a few weeks ago, to provide feedback to CSC and iSoft.
