So if you haven't been following the gist on climate change, volatility in weather has increase (along with sharemarkets but not quite related). I doubt Dr Tim Flannery said those works in any scientific context.
The reason we have six large scale desalination plants with a combined 534GL/year of capacity is because we have longer droughts. Overall, global warming will result in increased world rainfall. Activities resulting in global climate change are expected to trigger droughts with a substantial impact on agriculture throughout the world, and especially in developing nations. Along with drought in some areas, flooding and erosion could increase in others.
BTW only litre of desal water requires 5kWh to produce, as much as around half the daily consumption of electricity from a family home. Thats a sheet load of energy for something we take for granted. And we burn coal to product it!
To keep nearmap in context in these conversation, "scientists" will be monitoring climate progress using all forms of valid data including nearmap historic images.
