You are dealing with people who believe that upon death, they will be resurrected and live eternally by a supposed loving/caring being who has always looked over them.
This is a childish, narcissistic quality - believing that they are somehow special and deserving of eternal life, in which there is no evidence of.
The fact that this illusion cannot be disproven is enough for them to clutch onto this fantasy.

You could never take such an irresistible illusion away from them.
