All believers interpret the bible in a way that suits their own preferences and tastes, adopting this or that doctrine because it appeals to these needs, meanwhile ignoring all contradictions and absurdities contained within its collection of books.

Dbt9, that is a sweeping statement does not apply to "all believers". Jesus forewarned his genuine disciples of what lay ahead so they would be fully prepared.
(John 16:2) Men will expel you from the synagogue. In fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he has offered a sacred service to God.
Some may have been deterred, but history testifies to the uncompromising faith of many.
It is true that there are some that chant 'Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved!' or other feel-good mantras. They then feel free to live a life of debauchery, while wondering why true Christians shun them. It shouldn't surprise because that too was anticipated.
(2 Peter 2:1, 2) However, there also came to be false prophets among the people, as there will also be false teachers among you. These will quietly bring in destructive sects, and they will even disown the owner who bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves. Furthermore, many will follow their brazen conduct, and because of them the way of the truth will be spoken of abusively.
