While on the subject of land management, a word from the wise.
If you ever get tempted to plant a hedge of Leighton Greens (.or leylandii), a type of cypress, research it very carefully.
They are prone to some kind of disease or virus which kills them off as they near maturity.
If you are ever driving round the NSW Southern Highlands you will probably see it - a long row of them with dead ones gradually appearing.
It happened to us. I think we planted 30-40 around 20-25 years ago. There are empty spaces where I cut out dead ones, just now there are a couple more dead ones standing.
It happened to my late brother-in-law between Boorowa & Crookwell. He tried treating his with a recommended spray, they still died and he had to root them all out.
It can be an expensive business to get rid of them if you can't do it yourself.
