I was thinking about this last night but more the other way. They have got 40mil which would get them through 2008? and hopefully get south africa to production? as it seems to be being fasttracked. This consolidation puts the company in a more atractive area to investers as you said nine lives (re billion shares, 16c not being attractive).

Also getting consolidation done before we start hearing any big news would make sense again as there is no point putting out all this great news if investers werent even giving mpo a look because of the bil shares and 16c price. So maybe consolidation is a key thing before we see mpo moving again with major announcements.

This would all fit in with why these people are imo capping and accumulating atm.

If they are consolidating just so they can do another capital raising then that'd be disappointing, i dont think the market would take to kindly to that.
