"There are three biggies - anodes for aluminium production......."

Currently anodes for the aluminium industry are made of, roughly, petroleum
coke (60-70 wt.%), coal tar pitch (14-17 wt.%) and anode scrap (15-20 wt.%) - no "natural" graphite is used, other than in cathodes.

The SYR Chinalco MOU SUGGESTS this is a new market, but no BINDING off-take for supply has been signed, so at this stage, at least, it's a "possible" new market, and there are those in the industry who doubt it will.

And while on that site (Black China) might be good to read how China's aluminium industry is living on debt, and that Chalco has formed a coalition of 13 companies in a plan to sell metal direct to the market, outside the SHFE.

So interesting times for the industry as a whole, not to mention Chalco who has already made significant losses. Is that the reason they haven't signed a BINDING contract?
