    Thanks for that article Jmcc: And Fonterra will need coal for their boilers for quite a few more years to come, to produce their milk powder. From what i've read, wood biomass; the green alternative just won't do the job. Even co-firing a boiler with a coal/wood biomass mix, coal would seem to be logically the primary source of heat energy.

    NZ Steel Mill needs coal.

    BRL's domestic coal operations should be well supported by customer demand for quite a while yet.

    The Labour govt has already said that no existing coal mines will be closed.

    And I can't imagine the majority of the voting public and traditional labour voters would be very impressed if they reversed that decision. Job losses and flow on effects in rural areas would not go down well.

    And dosen't the National Party have a hip young leader now, i think i saw. Something for the govt to consider for the next election.
