I'm not so sure. For example the ABC report on live baiting in the greyhound industry relied on video footage taken by the ABC and going to air rather than an ABC journalist running to the police and informing them that live baiting was taking place. Cruelty in the live animal export industry has been visually exposed by media organisations, rather than them going to the police and informing them that animals were being treated in an untoward manner. Journalists report stories, they don't as a rule run to the police and tell them something unlawful might be about to happen.
