Our next door neighbour has one of those electronic set ups for there dog. The fence line has a cable running around it about 300mm from the ground and the dog wears a collar with a small electronic device on it. When it gets too close it emits a small electric shock to the dog so it eventually stays away from the fence.
When we inherited our dog from my son who realised that puppies grow up and turn into bigger problems. He was a terrible mut with any shoe left out was chewed up and if the gate was left open he was gone. Took about 18 months to grow out of this to where now I can go out leave the gate open and he will not go out. Today when i came home he is sitting at the gate waiting for me.
Dogs can be good friends but you must always remember they must have only one master so some obedience must be taught.
