Not selling the good stuff or Stockpiling Dysprosium for a large order , if its not of value it tends to stay in the ground like coal, every company that's uses this stuff is more worried about a guaranteed supply not because they cant use it.
To Lynas credit they doing what they can to be a reliable supplier of rare earths, stockpiling makes sense.
High end magnets use Dysprosium in their mix at this stage and the foreseeable future and NTU has a supply of this stuff within a country that's fairly stable so that should allay the fears from buyers.
Cant see Australian Govt telling NTU they cant sell to Japan cause they harpooned a whale, but at this stage NTU has Dysprosium and other countries need it.. Until another country besides China or Australia starts mining the mineral then NTU has strategic value. Like having the only official license to sell and serve Peking Duck outside of China is probably a good comparison to an independent supply of this rare earth..
