absolutely- dysfunction causes the problems at many levels. I had an interesting conversation with my son about his relationship with his two young girls - commenting that the research suggested that the quality of his relationship with them will influence the type of partner they choose. He was deeply aware of this and has recently spent six weeks as the home parent following his youngest having a serious surgical intervention. He has loved and valued the time and says it has helped him understand the stresses a mother experiences
I’m enormously proud of him for being a thoughtful parent and thoughtful partner ready to learn and understand m. And he is also very good with ground rules and boundaries and “certainty “ for the children. I feel really happy to know he is proving to be a fine young man
I wish more were ready to be that open to learning
