I grew up in an era where it was seen as bad behaviour and unacceptable to hit a woman, but it was normal behaviour and acceptable for a woman to slap a man’s face.
And in most cases it was viewed as humorous.

we can thank Whitlam for the sensible adjustment which recognised the rights of the mother.
