Depends on what you’re interested in and how
deep you want to delve into the human psyche.
There are many books that will give a general
overview of what makes people behave in
certain ways.
There are books that go a lot deeper and
explore how the human mind develops and how
a poor environment growing up damages a
person.
What Scott has said is true but there are many
reasons why people act badly and many
reasons why people unknowingly and
unwittingly sabotage their own path forward in
life. The one constant is maladaptive behaviour
to circumstances that have damaged their psyche
as a younger person.
The maladaptive behaviours that will manifest
themselves depend on a combination of the
individual’s natural personality traits and the
the dysfunctional environment that they have
been subjected to.
